ISO 20700 Standard:
ISO 20700:2017 Guidelines for Management Consultancy Services was developed by CMC-Global (International Council of Management Consulting Institutes, ICMCI) with International Organization for Standardization (ISO), to enhance the knowledge of profession’s standard to all stakeholders and encourage management Consultants worldwide to adopt the guidelines in their day to day business.
CMC-Global (ICMCI) is the international Management Consulting professional body, comprised of individual country-based, member, Institutes of Management Consulting (IMCs). The Institute of Management Consultants Hong Kong (IMCHK) is the professional chapter and qualifying body for management consultants in Hong Kong and Macau. Together we work with many industry leaders, with academia, with consulting firms of all shapes and sizes, and have built a common standard for the individual certification of professional management consultants.
ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant International Standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges.
ISO 20700 Propose: As part of its role as the self-regulatory body of the management consulting profession, CMC-Global (ICMCI) took the lead in initiating the production of the ISO 20700 standard. This initiative came from its values to promote innovation, differentiation, ethical behaviour, service excellence, and continued improvement, with the customer focus as the core, to enhance transparency and understanding between clients and management consultancy service providers. The contributions of CMC Global lead to a modern standard that meets the requirements of clients as well as the management consulting industry by re-enforcing good consulting practices and ethical behavior among practitioners, while focusing on outcomes by defining state of the art successful assignments and accommodating the different cultures, size of projects, and approaches to consulting. The focus on clients was with the purpose of providing them with a tool to assist in identifying and selecting professional providers that demonstrate good professional practices, as well as means to evaluate services received. This provides clients of management consultancy services with the assurance of professional behaviour and enhances trust that is based on a systematic scheme for consulting.
ISO 20700 Advantage: ISO 20700, Guidelines for Management Consultancy Services, aims to improve the transparency and understanding of consultancy assignments between service providers of management consultancy and their clients. The International Standard (ISO 20700) enables the service providers to well understand the client's expectation and reduce risk in management consultancy service. Clients communicate effectively with service providers and build trust with them. Consultants can contribute their expertise, advise, and supports to the clients' organization with no barriers.
ISO 20700 Training and Certification: In order to provide practical and hands on support for management consultants in demonstrating their work according to the ISO 20700, CMC-Global has developed a self-declaration checklist to the ISO 20700 Guidelines for management consultancy services. This list, as well as the extent and the content of the list, are agreed individually by client and provider for each project. CMC-Global makes this list available in a "Train the Trainer" training provided to all its Member Institutes to accredit them to provide the training to all Management Consultants (MCs) and Certified Management Consultants (CMCs) of IMCs, with a certificate issued by the IMCs and ICMCI. The training Terms of Reference document provides all needed details. IMCHK is the unique trainer on behalf of ICMCI to provide training and certification of ISO 20700 in regional area (Hong Kong and Macau). IMCHK conducts and supports ISO 20700 training to Professional Management Consultants, and Certified Management Consultants (CMC), IMCHK Corporation Member, as well as non-certified consultancy providers in different industries and professionals. IMCHK partners with local training institutes to provide ISO 20700 training and certification to required consultants and industries. An online 4-hours training module provided by Dwight Mihalicz, CMC an ICMCI accredited trainer to give CMC accredited consultant, everything to become an expert in the ISO 20700:2017 Guidelines for Management Consultancy Services. These self-paced online module includes all of the content CMC will need. Successful completion requires the completion of quizzes to validate your understanding of the material and the completion of one case study. The CMC participants will receive a certificate of training directly from ICMCI, and will be registered on the ISO20700.org website.
