Assessment Guide to the Candidate    

 

  The candidate who are qualified to the entry of Certified Management Consultant, CMC (Certified Management) may complete the Application Form and apply the certification assessment process of Certified Management Consultant (CMC). Certification assessment process of IMCHK are following the requirements of Certified Management Consultant (CMC) Matrix of Preferred and Acceptable Assessment Techniques, CMC006 of ICMCI.

This Assessment Guide is to prepare the candidates who are planning to go through the certification assessment process and become Certified Management Consultant (CMC) of the Institute of Management Consultant - Hong Kong. If you have any questions, please contact us at adminsec@imchk.com.hk.

I. Assessments

The assessment consist of 3 parts:

  1. Code of Professional Conduct Test (multiple choice)
  2. Case Study (consulting report preparation and presentation)
  3. Panel Interview

 

II. Time Allowed (Total 2 hours 45 minutes)

  1. Code of Professional Conduct Test (multiple choice): 15 minutes
  2. Case Study (consulting report preparation and presentation): 90 minutes preparation and 15 minutes presentation
  3. Panel Interview: around 45 minutes

 

III. Language

English is the medium of the Assessment. All reports, presentations and interactions should be conducted in English. Please note that your report and presentation should be in Microsoft Powerpoint format.

 

IV. Materials provided

You will be provided with:

  1. An Assessment Case
  2. Papers for your rough notes, calculations and draft presentation materials (You have to leave these papers behind after the assessment.)
  3. A pen

Please bring your notebook computer with Microsoft Powerpoint programme for the case study presentation. If you are using MacBook, please bring along a converter / adaptor for connection to the projector

Please let us know if you need any other materials. All assessment case study papers must be returned to the Certification Coordinator on the completion of the assessment.

 

V. Assessment criteria and marking (Refer to Certified Management Consultant (CMC) Matrix of Preferred and Acceptable Assessment Techniques, CMC006 of ICMCI)

Part I:
Code of Ethics assessment (multiple choice): 15 minutes
There are 10 multiple choice questions. To obtain a pass, you must have at least 6 questions answered correctly. You are advised to study the IMCHK Code of Professional Conduct.
Part II:
Case Study (consulting report preparation and presentation): 90 minutes preparation and 15 minutes presentation
The assessment is based on the following criteria:
  • Identification of the problems and issues
  • Analysis and use of relevant information
  • Preparation of clear and concise consulting report to demonstrate your approach and methodology to the client
  • Identification and development of reasoned range of alternatives
  • Presentation of a series of recommendations for consideration and implementation by the client
  • Presentation in a clear, concise and convincing manner
  • Verbal communication of a logical, clear and concise report to the client
  • Your language skills
  • Your presentation skills
Part III:
Panel Interview: around 45 minutes
There are 3 senior and well-respected management consultants on the panel. The panelists are looking for evidence re your client handling skills, level of experience and competence in consulting, common sense, composure and your ethical practice of consulting.

 

         Appeal of Certification Assessment

For the condition of candidate fails to pass the assessment, IMCHK Council will provide notification to the applicant, including the assessment comment to the applicant. Applicant may take improvement and retry the CMC Certification.   

 

However, the applicant has the right to appeal against the Certification and applicant can exercise his or her right to submit official letter of appeal to IMCHK Administration about CMC Certification results or process. The letter must state clearly the applicant's view about the missing or inadequacy of CMC Certification Assessment. 

 

IMCHK Council will establish a special team (the team will not include the Assessors of CMC Certification to the applicant)  to re-evaluate the Certification results against to the appeal. If necessary, members of special team will contact the applicant to collect more information and will also contact the Assessors to further review the process of CMC Certification.  Finally, special team will report the re-valuation result to Council.

 

IMCHK Council will take follow-up action to the appeal.  For the condition of successful appeal, Council will inform applicant  about the re-evaluation result and he or she can continue the CMC Certification process. For the condition of failed appeal,  Council will also reply to the applicant about the re-evaluation result and help the applicant to arrange the retry of CMC Certification.
